A (still not understood) lessening of the mortality associated with epidemics, gradual agricultural improvement and (in Europe) social changes which encouraged production and opportunity, and (mostly from the eighteenth century) the impact of new crops from the Americas (the potato in Europe, maize and sweet potato in China). The population of the world has been increasing steadily for a number of centuries now. It won't continue to do so indefinitely, but it can continue to increase for at least a while longer. The year 2025 is only another 13 years from now, as I type, so a reasonable guess is that the population will increase by then to perhaps 8 billion.
There are about 150,000 wolves left in the world. They used to be at a large risk for extinction, but they are steadily increasing in population.
