He saw the English and Americans as ethnic cousins to the Germans. Plus, he knew a wider, multi-front war would be more difficult to win. Hitler's great dream was a vast German empire in Eastern Europe.

Hitler wanted to invade the UK, but also had a great respect for the British, in fact he regarded the British as of the SAME RACE, as the Germans, Saxons, or a part of the Aryan races. His wish had always been that Germany, and Britain, would join hands, and deal with the main enemy, Stalin in Russia.

Indeed, if he had played things differently, it was possible that both Britain, and indeed America, could have joined him against Russia. As indeed happened after the WAR during the Cold War period. Russia was indeed a great danger to the World, and if Hitler had not involved himself in attacking other countries, and had kept away from the Holocaust, it was indeed all possible that World History would have been different. Millions of deaths would not have happened, except in Russia itself, were Stalin was killing many millions, even more than the Nazi's who did this over a period of 12 years, but Stalin did right up to his death.

But, like most dictators, even the modern one's knocking about right now, Total Power tends to make people think they are 'God', and they no longer are interested in the people, but just getting more POWER. That's all they want, more, and more Power, and this always ends in ordinary people dying. Hitler showed his 'respect' for the British, by stopping his Army destroying the British Army at Dunkirk, his hope was that Britain would give up, and join him, but like all semi-Gods, he could not see his errors in his actions, with the result, that he lost, as all dictators do in time.

Yes, but apart from that....Had the Germans attempted Sealion, then when they arrive on UK soil they have good chances of achieving a bridgehead in the autumn of 1940. That assumes one tiny little detail: Crossing the channel. And despite the fact that there were invasion barges available, the logistics to support them were not. Neither naval, in particular, or air cover were, which shows the reason why Churchill was so very concerned about the French Navy (Oran & Dakar show this vehemently).

Had Hitler inherited these Capital ships then Britain is further imperiled. The history of WW2 shows how insecure Hitlers' forces were at sea, at least above the waves, and though Raeder had excellent forces in singular amounts, despite the 'Channel dash' for example, he didn't have the quantity to challenge the Royal Navy. If you accept the battle of the River Plate for example, Dec 1939, Graf Spee had crippled HMS Exeter, as well as damaging HMS Ajax, but was obliged to destroy itself. The plain fact is that the Royal Navy could afford the loss.

And this then answers the Question: Hitler simply did not have the naval power to protect his forces crossing the Channel. And so he turned his eyes to the East.

Hitler did try negotiations with Britain; Germany considered England to be a relative. Germany did not want war with the US; they had seen those results in 1917 (WW1). Germany's hands were pushed when they invaded the USSR; that situation called for a weakening of the Soviet enemy by opening a second front...on Russia's eastern flank, Asia. The German high command did not want the unlimited manpower from Russia's east to pour into the western front to create more pressure against the German Armies. Japan had fought Russia twice: 1904 & 1939; if Hitler declared war on the US to help Japan fight America, he hoped Japan would help Germany and attack the USSR. After all, they were partners, they both signed the Tripartite Pact.

He did not want to be at war with England, who he regarded as a natural ally, and fellow Aryans. If refering to towards the end of the Battle of Britain - Germany couldn't secure the skies over Britain, and with winter approaching would have been difficult for the landing craft.

Britian won the Battle of Britain where The Germans and the British fought for contorl over the skies. Britian won this so they have control over the skies above Britian and the English Channel. If Hitler had sent over an Army across the Channel they would all get sunken which would of been a waste of shisp and men.

He tried. He could not use his tanks (like he did in other countries such as Poland and France) because of the English Channel, and in order to use boats to cross the Channel he had to control the air. This resulted in the Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940. Fighter pilots from Britain, Ireland and all over the world took part, flying Spitfire and Hurricane fighter planes in order to stop German fighters controlling the sky above Britain. Because they succeeded, Hitler could not land troops on Britain.

Selfishness, cowardice, laziness.

Winston Churchill was screaming against what they were doing, but they thought that bad adolfie would be satisfied if they let him swallow Austria and checkoslovackia

When it was clear that he wasn't, they had to call Churchill to clean the mess they had done

Hitler wanted to fight Britain because of the way Germany was treated after the first World War. Britain and France came up with the Treaty of Versailles to punish Germany for starting the war. The punishments included loss of land, reparations to Britain and France, the reduction of their military, and that Germany had to take the blame for starting the war and publicly announce that it was their fault. It was for these reasons that Hitler was able to take control of Germany; However I don't know exactly if Hitler wanted to fight Britain because Britain and France declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland, but it's not to say he wouldn't have eventually invaded Britain because France was the next country taken over by Germany and then they tried to attack Britain in the Battle of Britain, but the British held them off.
