Because he did believe in it.
He may have moved away from the frigid belief in the system for some sort of political gain but Gandhi believed that some human races were born better then the others.
See his comments on the blacks and indians.
Gandhi protested against the caste system as he wanted everyone to be treated equally and even if people where of the same caste they had to be united. This made unity in India and by this they made the British leave India.Remembering this the caste system in India almost abolished.
This is one of the reason why Gandhi protested against the caste system.
The middle class caste.Gandhi belonged to the Vaishya - the third or commercial and business caste. This caste of people were skilled workers, including farmers, herdsmen, traders, merchents, etc...
Gandhi was not against the caste sysrtem. Infact he thought that it is one of the best devises of Indian system. But he was woried about the plight of the untouchables. So took necessary steps to improve their social conditions. He fondly called them Harijans- sons of god.
I think That Gandhi did not agree with the caste system.
he did nothing for improve the Caste System infect he did for upper caste and did fighting with Dr.B.R.Ambedkar for right of SC/ST during constitution
horrible again 6th grade
Gandhi believed in equivalence in the Hindu Caste system & Hinduism.
Mohandas Gandhi is a gujratti and a brahamin ?. > > > I think he was belong to Vaisya(Merchant) Samaj (As I have read in Wikipedia).
In India there is a caste system and the lowest caste of them all is called the "untouchables" so when Gandhi said that...he was saying that basically no one is better than anyone else and that we are all equal
He didnt......he was absolutely in favor of the caste system and all the injustices that came along with it. He was a deeply flawed man, unlike the portrait society paints of him.
There is no reason to think that Gupta kings did not believe in caste system. They were hindus, and caste system was a part of the Hindu social structure.
mostly.
Gandhi believed in equivalence in the Hindu Caste system & Hinduism.
He helped lead to getting it outlawed in India.
because he thought everyone was equal

i know that each and every source will tell u that Gandhi was against the caste system, but in fact he wanted the system. Gandhi was a Vaishya, he wanted to create an image to the Indian people that he was against, by calling them harijans. he had started a starvation proces, in which he said that if Shudars (the lowest caste) were allowed to have rights, he would starve to death. that proves that he was never in favour of getting rid of casteism. if Gandhi said that Shudars were children og god, then he is basically saying that he is not a child of god. Gandhi was a Hindu, and hindus apparently believe in equal treatment, by introducing the caste system they have showed that they infact don't believe in the caste system. so , i ask if u are a shudar and u call yourself Hindu , think to yourself, do u want to be part of a religion that does not treat u well, and thinks of u as untouchable
Well, if you are a non-Hindu, you are instantly placed in the untouchables caste which was, however, removed in Gandhi's time. Since non-Hindus have no ties with the Caste System, it isn't mentioned as much.
Ghandi's caste was Vaisya, a merchant caste
He wanted to bring peace to Hindu

Mohandas Gandhi defended the rights of all classes of people. India had an almost insurmountable caste system that kept people poor for generations.
