Slave based plantations were not developed in New England because the slave owners there preferred to have indentured slaves rather than African slaves. This was because they believed the African slaves did not live long enough.

Colonies so much to the north could hardly grow any crops at all. They only hunted, they did not grow. It was very rare for a farm to be in a New England colony so the thought of a plantation was unheard of in those northern colonies.

The reason why new england didnt adopt a plantation style of farming because they had rocky soil and they didnt have very rich soil either
