After sling procedures you are usually given pain medications which are constipating. Most doctors will recommend that you take a stool softener. If you are unable to urinate without self-catheterizing, this is normal for a while. So, your doctor should prescribe catheters for you to use until your residual urine is less than 50 cc. Doctors will vary on their instructions. If your surgery was a long time ago and these symptoms are new, you should see your doctor.
Most urologists or urogynecologists will order tests to diagnose why you are having problems urinating. If you have any problem after a surgical procedure, it is important to discuss this with the surgeon and/or Doctor Who ordered the procedure. Most doctors want you to have a successful surgery and an improvement in your life. If you still have problems after you see the surgeon, you need to find another doctor you can trust and get a second opinion. It is not good when physicians dismiss your problems rather than dealing with them.
