I dont think anyone WANTS to be lonely, I think that they dont want to deal with others on a social level, maybe they werent brought up in a positive home and are worried about what everyone will think, so its easier to avoid people then deal. ----- I agree, but it is important to be aware of the difference between wanting to be alone, and being lonely. Some people are quite happy to be alone at various times, but most people need friendship and company some of the time. Those unfortunate in their loneliness may lack social skills that usually develop in early childhood, and may just be too shy or introverted to put themselves in a situation where they may fear rejection.

∙ 12y agoIt depends on the situation. You have to have specifics. For example a shy person (like myself) is lonely because they don't make enough effort to talk to people (or they go to a crap high school). A person with a fatal disease may feel lonely because they believe no one can understand what they are going through.

∙ 10y agoSome people may be loners because they were hurt. Others are loners just as a matter of preference. Perhaps there are no suitable people with the same values and intellect to be their friends. Or they may be autistic, have Aspergers Syndrome, or have schizoid personality disorder.

∙ 14y agoChances are, that's just the way you are. ------------ Many individuals want to get away from everyone, once in a while. ------------ Being alone by choice, for solitary pursuits, can be valuable and enlightening. Being alone because you are shunned, or awkward in social situations, is unnecessary and harmful. People are social beings, and have better lives when supported by families and friends.

∙ 13y agoOK first, i have taken this question two ways. So i shall answer it in two ways.
If you meant living without a partner I think some people are just more comfortable living their lives alone.
Not having someone to tell them what to do and what not.
Personally i don't think its a matter of not wanting to be in a relationship, but a matter of not wanting to be tied down and being restricted with what they do. Being free to make decisions without having to consider someone else, or just the fact that they can do what they want when they want too.
Now if you meant people who like to spend time alone I think most people like that.
We start off in this life as individuals. And being around people constantly can make us feel like we are not individuals at all. We bounce our personalities off other people and sometimes you just feel like you are not yourself any more.
Being alone with no one around makes you feel yourself. Its just you and your mind re establishing who you are and what you stand for with no other people to distract you from who you are in your own head.
Everyone changes when we are around people and that can cause a detachment within our selves from who we are inside.

Why do you have dogs and puppies?
well some people have them because they like having the dogs and puppies in they're houses. And the second reason is that because some people dont havefamilies and have a little bit of money to go out and but a dog and puppy becausethey are alone and so that is the answer because some people like them and somepeople buy them because they are alone!

It is possible to stay forever alone. Some people choose to be alone and live a life of solitude.

Sure. If you just need some time to think, then being alone is great. Sometimes it's nice to get away from people who are always talking or demanding your attention, and just devote time to yourself. If you don't like being alone, or feel like you are always alone and have no one to talk to, then it might not be so good. Sometimes if you feel lonely you could sit somewhere where there's a lot of people, like a coffee shop, or call your parents or a friend. Ultimately, though, being alone in itself is not a bad thing.

Depends what kind of person they are. Some people are best if they have time alone (like I would be in that situation), and some people need the support of many friends. When comforting people I always stick to two rules: If they are hinting (even subconsciously) that they want to be alone or in company, do that and don't badger them if they seem somewhat annoyed.
