The Maya calendar was adopted by the other Mesoamerican nations, such as the Aztecs and the Toltec, which adopted the mechanics of the calendar unaltered but changed the names of the days of the week and the months

The Maya calendar uses three different dating systems in parallel, the Long Count, the Tzolkin (divine calendar), and the Haab (civil calendar). Of these, only the Haab has a direct relationship to the length of the year.

A typical Mayan date looks like this: 12.18.16.2.6, 3 Cimi 4 Zotz.

12.18.16.2.6 is the Long Count date. 3 Cimi is the Tzolkin date. 4 Zotz is the Haab date.

Calendars have always ben used for the same reasons: to keep track of how long its been since an important event, to predict the coming of seasons and growing periods, and to track festivals. The Mayans were no different and used their several calendars for these purposes. Their calendar (long cout) started on August 11, 3114 BCE after all the changes are figured out and contained several subcycles of years. It also tracked lunar cycles (months) and the rising and setting of Venus.

The tzolkin is not the creation of a 260-day calendar. It is merely the result when the 13-day calendar is merged with the 20-day names of every Mayan 20-day month of the 360-day year. Kin 0 will always be day Ahau, kin 2 will always be day imix, etc. The 360-day calendar comes from before the Flood, it was created 666 years before Noah was born, and was 1266 years old when the Flood came in the year 1656. The Maya shifted it 20 days so that Mayan new year is Noah's date 1-21. So while that calendar went forward 20 days, the Egyptian 365-day calendar was pushed back 16 days making Thoth (Tot) the month of Phoph (Pop). The calendar was createdin 1314bc as the year 200 of the world. As the Great Pyramid was built in 2170bc 200 years after the global Flood of 2370bc, so too then a comet encounter disrupted all earth in 1514bc and 200 years later the Maya decided they needed to do the same in Copan that was done in Egypt, build towers. And claim the Flood was 3114bc 1800 years ago. The 260-day tzolkin intent is to measure 780-day Mars, however the morningstar of Venus is 263 days, and so the tazlkin date of rising comes back before Venus vanishes behind the sun. The span of 52 years has 13 leap days, and 52x 365 days is 260 days longer than 52x 360 day Mars being 73 tzolkin and 72 tzolkin. The 52-year Mars comes from Babel 2009bc (July 8 rising at the end of Marduk Street). Egyptian chronology (1290bc) and Babylon of 747bc demanded that this Marduk at the end of the Street was the opposite direction to the Jan 8 Thoth new year. The Mayan Marduk is the new year 3113bc as Noah's new year 601 six months before his grandson Arpaxad was born in 601, and the Genesis Marduk is the year 2368bc as new year 602 because it is AFTER the six months of that kid's birth 124 days after stepping of the ark due to Mount Ararat's first burying snow storm.
