Why do Muslims stand shoulder to shoulder?

I do not know a lot, but I will still give u a simple answer, I'm sure some others would give more rich answers still.

So Islam is based on that EVERYONE is equal, we are all slaves of God, no difference between us, so even in our prayers, we pray shoulder to shoulder... Now why is that ?

First, it gives Muslims unity, that every1 is praying shoulder to shoulder to the other, and they are all doing the same thing, praying to God.

Secondly, it forces the point of equality in Islam, so you would see a billionaire praying shoulder to shoulder to a poor person who can barely have enough to eat, just like what you would see in Hajj in Mecca for example, presidents of countries praying shoulder to shoulder to random normal people, coz in Islam they both are equal.

I am very sure that others can add much more to that, I just answered by my limited knowledge of the case.

When Muslims pray in Jamat ( Group) they stand shoulder to shoulder and feet to feet so the devil will not have any space in between them!

This is what I have been told by my elders.

Because in the mosque in salaat they pray standing together row by row for unity and the reward for group prayer is more than individual prayer.

It is obligatory for the Muslims to make their rows straight and compact and to close the gaps between them. That is done by standing shoulder-to-shoulder and foot-to-foot.
