The importance of the Washington Naval Treaty was an attempt to cap and limit, and "prevent 'further' costly escalation" of the naval arms race that had begun after World War I between various International powers, each of which had significant naval fleets.
A caucus or a convention to choose whom a party will support during an election does not necessarily create a situation closer to a direct democracy. What it does do is cap the level at which democracy occurs. For example, John is a Republican. He wants Ben to become president. John votes in the caucus for Ben, but Ben does not win. Instead, Paul wins and becomes the Republican presidential candidate. At this point in time, John's opinion is thrown out the window. He is left with 3 choices : vote with his party, vote Democrat, or vote for some third party guy (notice how none of these are his original opinion?) So, no, a caucus or convention is not closer to a direct democracy. Hope this helps ^_^
Canada, a former British colony and neighbor of the United States, has historically had strong ties with the rest of the English-speaking world. Canada is strategically placed in the North Atlantic and Arctic Circle, meaning it has a long history of military activity. Air and naval bases were constructed in Canada during the World Wars and the Cold War, to support operations against enemy submarines and surface ships which could disrupt Allied (later NATO) supply lines to Europe. During the Cold War, Canada also hosted three lines of air defense radar, the Distant Early Warning Line, Mid-Canada Line, and Pinetree Line, which provided North America's first warning of an impending ballistic missile or air attack by the Soviet Union or its allies, which was believed to be most likely to come over the North Pole. Economically, Canada's vast northern regions contain large quantities of fossil fuel deposits and mining opportunities. Canada has experienced some territorial disputes with other Arctic powers over the sparsely inhabited, but economically-important frozen north. In addition, as the polar ice cap melts due to climate change, new trade routes are rapidly opening up in the Arctic Ocean. This has led to some friction with Russia, whose vessels have been very assertive in exploiting these new waterways.
The most beautiful college wear is the cap and the gown upon graduation. The cap and the gown of college wear is beautiful because of the message that it sends to the wearer that a major goal has been accomplished which is in this case, graduation. The college wear that consist of a cap and a gown is also adorned with a gold, white or a black tassel to indicate that graduation has been accomplished. The toss of the tassel from the left to the right of the cap as applicable indicates graduation, which is not only a beautiful adornment but a beautiful achievement, as well.
