∙ 16y agoBecause in the liver the smooth ER is where the detoxification systems are located. On the microsomes, systems like the P450 and others. When someone takes drugs, or alcohol the liver will increase the systems to reduce blood levels faster. This is why a person may develop a tolerance to a drug because the liver gears up and it is better at getting rid of the substance faster.

∙ 12y agoAlcoholis have more smooth ER because the smooth ER is where detoxification occurs. Since alcoholics consume more toxins than thos who don't drink, more ER is needed to keep the body alive.
