It depends: if you have a female dog that has puppies the puppies will drink the breast milk from the mother but the mother still drinks water. if you have a puppy and not its mother either call the vet and buy special milk or just give it water.
For cats, I would make sure toilets that are not being used should be flushed at all times. for both kittens with or without their mother give them warm milk. Weaned kittens and adult cats should be given water, or formulated kitten milk. Cats of all ages should not drink cow's milk as it can make them sick.

∙ 13y agoActually it depends on the cat because my cat only likes water but there are many cats that love the taste of milk. However, just because they like it doesn't mean they should be given milk all the time. Adult cats do not get any nutrition from milk and cannot digest the lactose, and cow's milk in particular causes some cats to be sick.
If you wish to give milk to a cat, do it in very, very small amounts on occasion, if your cat can tolerate it. There are also specially formulated milks for cats and kittens that have no lactose in and have added vitamins. These can be found in any pet shop or store.

∙ 13y agoThey love the taste of it. Milk is full of fat, which cats find highly palatable. However, adult cats do not need to drink milk and get no nutrition from it. Cow's milk should be avoided as many cats cannot digest the lactose found in it.

∙ 12y agoSome cats can drink regular milk, but most vomit and/or have diarrhea if you give them it. It is better to give them evaporated milk. A few cats don't have an allergic reaction, and you can test them by giving them a small amount of regular milk. If they have an allergic reaction, stop and if they still want milk give them evaporated. If they don't, you may give them small amounts of regular milk occasionally. As for whether it is good for them, once cats reach over the age of one, or become an adult, they do not need milk. It is more of a treat, a reward. Hope this helps. :)

∙ 7y agoCats not only do not need to drink milk, they should never be given any milk (unless it is specially formulated milk formula for cats) as they are unable to digest lactose and will get sick!
