Because he was!. All the evidence, scriptural (in the gospels), secular (by Jewish and Roman historians like Josephus and Tacitus, traditional, as in passed through the generations from Jesus to John to polycarp and the early church, and archeological, confirm that Jesus of Nazareth existed as a real person, and that his life was very much as the four independent gospel accounts relate to us.

This is because Christmas Day was created to celebrate Jesus' birth.

For example, why was the US created on Independence Day, July 4? Because this national holiday was created to mark the independence of the US.

Or why was Martin Luther King Jr, born on Martin Luther King Jr. day? Because this national holiday was created to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr's birth and subsequent achievements.

Answer

If you mean 'why was Jesus born on Dec 25th?' then he almost certainly wasn't. If, however, you mean 'why was Jesus born on Christmas Day?' then the simple answer is that Christmas Day ("Christ's mass") is the day chosen by definition to celebrate Christ's birth.

The reason why Dec 25th was chosen was because, early in the Church's history when the Roman Empire changed from paganism to becoming officially Christian, the pagan Roman festival of Saturnalia occurred at or around the winter solstice and extended into the new year. When Rome became officially Christian it was appropriate that the new festival commemorating Christ's birth should supercede the old false pagan festivals and not sit alongside them, or else people would adopt both.

Therefore Dec 25 was accepted as the day on which Christ's birth and, more importantly, his incarnation, should be celebrated. What is certain is that it would not have been then, as this was in the middle of winter. And in Luke, we read that 'shepherds were abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night'. This would never have happened in the cold harsh winters that hit the mountainous areas of Israel. So Jesus would have to have been born in warmer weather.

Though the date isn't important, the commemoration of his birth and incarnation is important, as, next to the crucifixion and resurrection this is the most important event in the history of humanity, for just as you cannot have the incarnation without the crucifixion and resurrection, you cannot have these without the miraculous incarnation of Christ - an event that needs to be commemorated for all time.

Christmas Day was named to celebrate jesus' birth... however it is pretty well agreed upon that jesus was not in fact born on dec 25th or even in december. they only celebrated Christmas during this time to ( if i recall correctly) to coincide their "christmas" on the same day as the pegans celebrated the solstice... it has been a long time since i researched this so a bit of fact checking is probably in order. hopefuly this will just start you off..

....true, I agree,

In fact, if you think of Christmas day as being December 25th, then Jesus was not born on that day. December 25th is merely the day we use to celebrate the birth of Jesus, which is why we call it Christmas Day. If you think of Jesus as Christ, and the meaning of Christmas is The Mass of Christ, then it makes sense that on that day we celebrate the birth of Jesus. However, being that the Gregorian calendar is corrupt and unreliable (unlike the Mayan calendar--which by the way, begins a new cycle after December 22, 2012). The true date of Jesus' birth has been lost in history. It is believed that Jesus was actually born in the Summer, or perhaps sometime in September. To understand why this happened first you need to take into account that the Gregorian calendar, which is attributed to Pope Gregory XIII, has a very confusing history because it is man-made. The Mayan calendar on the other hand is based on three celestial bodies: the moon, the sun, and our sister star(s) Sirius A & B.

Christian doctrine states that Jesus is the son of God, not God, as this would be against the first of the Ten Commandments. There is however considerable discussion whether this was also the accepted view in early Christianity.

There are several quotes in scripture with origin dates varying from 50 AD to around 400 AD that are used as "evidence" for the divinity of Jesus by Christian theologists.

As far as claims to divinity uttered by Jesus himself there is only one entry in the New Testament:

Say ye of him whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world,

Thou blasphemest because I said I am the Son of God - John 10:36 Note that the word the is rendered in Italics - many people think this is for emphasis and that therefore this statement is equal to the only son of God. However, this the is actually an interjection by the translator, as the English text is of course a translation from the oldest original rendering we have of this text. In this case, this is Ancient Greek:

ὃν ὁ πατὴρ ἡγίασεν καὶ ἀπέστειλεν εἰς τὸν κόσμον ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι βλασφημεῖς, ὅτι εἶπον· υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ εἰμι; Which literally renders as:

Whom the father acknowledged and sent into the world, you do say I blaspheme because I say: son of God I am. Note that the word υἱὸς is rendered in English as theson, whereas the word really means (the nature of being a) son. The Greek form therefore does not imply exclusivity and Jesus' statement can therefore also be rendered as:

because I said I am one of the sons (children) of God. This is the interpretation taken by Gnostic Christianity, which does not regard Jesus as divine, but as a mortal spiritual leader.

During the council of Nicea in 325 AD the divinity of Jesus was debated and subsequently became the official doctrine of the Church (a popularized though not accurate rendering of these historic accounts can be seen in the movie The Da Vinci Code). The gnostic interpretation thus became heresy punishable by death, and all Gnostic texts were removed from the Christian canon.

In the beginning of The Bible (Genesis) we are told of the creation. What ever God made was very good. God created Adam and Eve and they were good as well as innocent. But then Satan came to the Garden of Eden, lied to Eve, she believed him and then led Adam to sin also. At that time Adam and Eve died spiritually and were not friends with God. Since that time every person who has ever been born has been born spiritually dead. Spiritually dead persons hate God. The bible uses the word "enmity".

Most Christians believe that God is in three Persons. God the Father, God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.

God has had a plan since the beginning of the world and that plan includes persons who love Him. The only way God could have persons love Him again was to send a Messiah into the world that would sacrifice Himself so that people could come back to God or "Be Born Again". Jesus Christ is that Messiah. In God's plan Jesus came to earth born as a Baby, born to the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem. He grew to be a Man and in time went to the cross of Calvary to die for the worlds sins. (to be sacrificed). He was buried and on the third day God the father raised Him from the dead.

Now in order for a person to be Born Again they have to accept Jesus as their Savior and at that time that person is Born Again Spiritually and are united with God, they are reconciled back to God.

Jesus was the God/Man. He was sinless and He is now in heaven again with the Father. But he is coming back to earth again. Some people believe that time is drawing near. Now is the time for salvation before it is too late.
