Propelling of cilia or flagella need much energy. This energy is produced by mitochondria.

Just an outline of mitochondria:

Cells contain many mitochondria because mitochondria produces ATP,(adenosine triphosphate) which is a type of energy which is needed for cells to work, move about and do the function that they are meant to.

The cilia have a rapid stroke somewhat like an oar and every time there is a stroke there is an ATP being turned into an ADP and energy. Many strokes require much energy so these cells have many mitochondria to synthesize all the ATP they need to move.

The mitochondria supply the energy to move the flagellae or ciliae

Mitochondria are the literal engines of cells. The more work a cell is required to do, the more power it requires; thus, the more mitochondria.

Mitochondria are the site of aerobic respiration and this will produce the ATP necessary to drive the cilia or flagella (an active process requiring energy).

Ciliated cells need to move, in order to function properly, and therefore need to contain high amounts of mitochondria to produce the energy needed for this.

some cells contain many mitochondria because they need more energy

And because some cells are more active than the others

Cilia, especially when used as transportive devices, consume much energy. Mitochondria are utilized in transforming energy into a usable state.

Does a spermcell contain mitochondria?

A large number of mitochondria power the flagella of sperm cells.

What is a cell with relatively few energy needs will probably have a relatively small number of?

mitochondria

How would the number of mitochondria in an insect wing compared to the amount found in other cells in an insect body?

more - because wings require relatively more energy (so that it can fly) in relation to other parts of its body.

Some cells contain large numbers of mitochondria while others have relatively few or none This suggests?

This suggest that the cell with more number of mitochondria need more energy (ATP) to per form its function.

How many mitochondria does a skin cell have?

Cells that require the most energy contain the most energy generating mitochondria. The cells of the brain, the skeletal muscle and heart muscle, and the eye contain the highest number of mitochondria (as many as 10,000 per cell) while the skin cells, which do not require much energy, contain only a few hundred of them.

What is a characteristic of body cells that require large amount of energy?

they have a large number of mitochondriaby PNG fans

What organelles would increase in the muscles if running long distance?

Running long distance will require more energy. For this number of mitochondria will increase in the muscles.

What happen's in mitchodrian?

Mitochondria is an organelle found in nearly all eukaryotic cells. It is responsible for producing ATP (adenisine triphosphate) va cellular respiration. A mitochonidran is a relatively large organelle and has a double membrane. The inner membrane, called the cristae, is heavily folded in orderto increase surface area for gaseous exchange. When respiring, mitochondria produce ATP, which is energy for the cell. Cells such as muscle and sperm cells, which require lots of movement and energy, have a large number of mitochondria present. It is thought that mitochondria were once independant and exsisted outside of a cell. They are able to reproduce on their own, and do not need the nucleus to carry it out.

Why rod cells require large number of mitochondria?

Mitochondria are required to regenerate rhodopsin (the pigment that absorbs photons in rod cell membranes) and also for the active transport of ions needed for action potentials to be generated and hence an impulse to occur

What has more mitochondria a heart cell or a skin cell?

Muscles cells require vast amounts more mitochondria, in order to release the ATP energy necessary to contract and help us move.

How does the structure of a cell relates to its function?

To cut straight to the point, the structure of a cell determines its function. For example, sperm cells are equipped with a flagella and many many mitochondria so they can promptly swim to and fertilize an egg cell. If sperm did not have a flagella or many mitochondria, the egg would never be fertilized and hence, there would be no life.Another example is the high number of Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (Smooth ER) in liver and kidney cells. the liver and kidneys are able to detoxify blood because of their Smooth ER, which are the organelles directly responsible for detoxifying the blood.

What type of body cell would most likely have the greatest number of mitochondria?

You'll find more mitochondria in a animal cell because we produce energy through our mitochondria's. Plants make energy through there cell wall. We need more mitochondria's to make energy.
