I can't be completely sure because I haven't seen your bird. But, if your cockatiel is losing feathers on his body, he is probably plucking them out himself out of stress or depression. If he is losing feathers on his head, then another bird is probably preening him too aggressively. Either way, if it doesn't stop soon, I suggest you check with your vet on how to help him. :)

This is part of the natural moulting process. Bird lose feathers from some areas of their body as new ones come in. It is more pronounced around the eyes because the feathers are thinner there. If it doesn't settler within a few weeks, take your bird to a vet to have it checked, just in case there is a bigger problem.

Do baby cockatiels have red eyes?

Yes they do. Baby cockatiels will have a molt when they are 6-9 months of age and during this time they will lose their baby feathers gradually. Generally around this age your cockatiel may be able to be visibly sexed depending upon what mutation you have. Please visit cockatiel cottage for more information which you can find via google. During a molt your birds will require extra fruits, vitamins, calcium and minerals as molting is hard work. Hope this helped. :)

Do parrots lose their feathers?

Yes, mature Peacocks do lose some of their feathers. After about age three, they begin cycles of annual molting of their long tail feathers. This usually occurs in summer, around July or August. After each molting, the tail feathers will be longer and have more "eyes". They drop the feathers here and there around the grounds where they roam, making it easy to find and collect them if you are lucky enough to live with them.
