Sounds like Arthritis. The pet is trying to tell you that something hurts. Remember, they can't speak, but I have no doubt they're cognitive enough to try to communicate to you with the only means they have possible, and that's by drawing your attention to a problem they're experiencing.
You're the smart pet owner, in that you've recognized a behavior that doesn't seem normal, which means the pet has 'reached you'. Now, it's up to you to figure out what it's really trying to say.
