Volcanoes produce more sulfur dioxide than any other cause. Some sulfur dioxide is also release from the burning of sulfur-rich fossil fuels.

When fuels burn what element present in the impurities in a fossil fuel may produce sulfur dioxide?

Sulfur.

Why are sulfur and its compounds being removed from natural gas and petroleum before they are burned?

The burning of fossil fuels containing sulfur compounds results in the production of sulfur dioxide. Sulfur dioxide combines with water in the atmosphere to produce sulfuric acid in the form of acid rain. Sulfur dioxide harmful to anyone who breathes it, and acid rain causes damage to property and natural systems such as rivers and forests.

Sulfur Dioxide is a gas emitted from fossil fuel combustion

What human activity releases large amounts of sulfur dioxide into the environment?

Sulfur dioxide is produced by the burning of coal to produce electricity. Nearly 2/3 of the sulfur dioxide produced is through the burning of fossil fuels.

Does the oxygen burned from fire turn into carbon dioxide?

Not on its own, and it depends on what is burning. A fire can only produce carbon dioxide if the substance burning with the oxygen contains carbon. And even then, if there are other elements, you will get more substances as products. Carbon will produce carbon dioxide and usually some carbon monoxide as well. Hydrogen will produce water vapor. Sulfur will produce sulfur dioxide. Magnesium will produce magnesium oxide.

What is the weight of burned sulfur?

After burning sulfur become another compound - sulfur dioxide (SO2), a gas.

Can sulfur dioxide be found in power plants refineries and industrial boilers.?

Sulfur dioxide is released from the burning of fossil fuels.

What gas does complete burning of fossil fuels produce?

Complete burning of the hydrocarbon portion of fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide. Since most fossil fuels contains nitrogenous and sulfurous components also, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide would also be produced by complete combustion.
