Organisms need energy in order to live and function properly enough to find more food to eat, to reproduce and even be mobile. Energy also help maintain normal bodily functions and homeostasis. Without needed energy and thus without food, an organism will die.

Without energy, cells can't function. For example, ATP (chemical energy) in cells provides most of the energy to carry out the cell's needs. Without energy, cells are unable to do their jobs, thus collapsing the system.

What is energy?

Energy is the ability to do work or to produce a change.

We need energy to do work. We need energy to walk, to breathe, to grow and to pick up things.

Plants and animals need energy to grow. Without energy, nothing would work.

How are nutrients important in living system?

Living systems must constantly replenish matter in the system by the absorption and metabolism of nutrients. Additionally living systems require energy to remain alive. Nutrients are also used to produce this energy.

The energy requirements of living systems include being able to move. These living systems also need energy to eat and to hunt.

How are energy and mass conserved by living systems?

Not quite sure what you mean; let's just say that living systems don't require any extraordinary efforts to conserve energy and mass, because that's what they do naturally, i.e., "be conserved". There is no known way to violate conservation of energy or mass.
