Why do many Native Americans believe that their people have always lived in the Americas?
Native American groups have continuously inhabited the Americas for about 10,000 years, even since crossing into North American via land/ice bridge and gradually migrating down through Central America into South America. An alternate view is that some Native Americans came by sea, from the Pacific Islands, also about 10,000 years ago or so.
