in a care home, there are mainly diseased people. you may often find themselves vomiting or sometimes things may slip out from their hands, for example a cup of milk, or medicines, so better to wear an apron rather than to spoil your clothes.

Sanitary reasons. Nurses often get bodily fluids on those, and it's much safer to simply dispose of the than to try washing them, and imposing the risk of contaminating other clothes or people that might come into contact with them, as well as the laundry carts.
