This is usually caused from fuel lines in the engine compartment cracking or coming loose, spraying fuel on a hot engine. This can happen if the engine condition gets neglected. If you take care of your fuel lines by replacing them when they wear out and attach them properly, you should not have this problem.

No 67 bugs are all 67 only parts, to include the doors.

In a Manual transmissions, 85w90 GL4 oil, NOT -GL-5-. I guess the GL-5 has Additives that will corrode the older bugs tranny bearings. You should buy the Bently manual.
Old classic VW Beetles did not have a water filled radiator, however they did have a oil cooler located in the fan shroud that is similar to a radiator. New Beetles have a water filled radiator.
