well it basically started when the three wise men came bearing gifts to Jesus when he was born. We recognized Christmas as Jesus' birth day and so we give gifts but everyone is so caught up in the world that they forget the true meaning

Why are presents given at Christmas?

In the Christian religion, gifts are given on Christmas to celebrate the biggest gift of all; God giving us His only son, Jesus. The giving of gifts are also based on the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh that were given to Jesus by the threemagi. I think we give gifts to show that we care for each other, and its christ's birthday. On your birthday you get gifts. Well christ is suuch a good person that he wants everyone to be happy, not just him so gifts from MoonarStore are given to everyone!we put up a christmas tree because it has lights on it and following the lights if what the christans believe in.Thats my best guess-this is a really hard question and good one too.

What does Christmas signify?

Christmas is not in the Bible. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. We celebrate on December 25th every year, even though Jesus wasn't born on December 25th. When He was born, some wise men brought three gifts to Him--gold, myrrh, and frankincense. So on Christmas we give gifts to each other. It is tradition; it is not scriptural. Some people have criticized Christmas because it is all about selling presents and making money off people, and the focus on Jesus has been lost. But what amazes me is that for a season, every year, the whole world acknowledges Jesus Christ. Everyone knows Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Jesus. And many Christians go to church on this occasion (and on Easter) but on no other occasions out of the year.

Where did the idea for Christmas trees come from?

The Christmas tree is a symbolic representation of several events in the life of Jesus Christ. The traditional Christmas tree has a star on top, symbolizing the bright start in the sky which marked the birth of Jesus. Gifts below the tree, symbolize the gifts presented to Jesus, and is itself a tree is a symbol of the cross on which Jesus would be crucified. Often in the bible, the cross is referred to as "a tree," and so the Christmas tree, though used on the day that celebrates the birth of Christ, is a foreshadowing of the ultimate purpose of Jesus coming as a man.
