About .2% (one out of every 500 people) of the people in the world are Jewish. Nine out of ten Jews do not practise Judaism. That leaves you with .02% (one out of every 5000 people) of the world's population actually practising Judaism. Compare that with one out of every 3 people who are Christian, or one out of every 5 people who are Muslim. Based on the numbers, Judaism is not popular.

Judaism is vital for the world-always has been. Arabia generates the sciences; the Hebrews preserve that which waited for Moses in Egypt. These are closely linked. Later the Old Testament, particularly the Torah evolves in language form until it matures in the King James English Bible-there you will find the End Product of all the hard work and sacrifice through the centuries. Forget ELS Bible Code, it does God no service; the real power is that which finally matured with the KJV. It now waits for dedicated scholars. Alan Chapman.

Answer 1

the Jewish religion is important because if we didn't have it then we would know nothing about its wisdom or its culture.

Answer 2

Most of the last 2500 years has been a conflict in policy, virtue, and ideals between Athens (civilization as founded in Greece), and Jerusalem (Judaism and its values). Were it not for the Jews, there would be no Jerusalem (both physically and ideologically).

Answer 3

Judaism is important for Jews and non-Jews. For Jews, Judaism is their way of life, based upon the God-given Torah. For non-Jews, Judaism has provided a number of important beliefs and forms of behavior. Here's a partial list:

1) The Jews' monotheistic religious tradition shaped the Western beliefs about God.

2) The 7-day week, including a day of rest for everyone.

3) The concept of morality was also the work of the Hebrews, including the dignity and value of a person. Under Israelite law, everyone had recourse to the courts. A child, widow, wife, etc., could initiate legal action against any citizen to redress perpetrated harm. Compare this to those societies in which only mature, land-owning males had rights.

4) Parents are responsible for teaching children. Illiteracy among Israelites, in every generation, was rare.

5) Infants are to be protected and cared for, whether or not they turned out to be the gender you were hoping for and regardless of whether they were physically or mentally handicapped.

6) Cruelty to animals is not acceptable.

7) Government is accountable to a higher authority. In other ancient societies, the monarch was all-powerful. Among the Israelites, however, the king was under the constant scrutiny of the Divinely-informed prophets, who didn't hesitate to castigate him publicly for any misstep in the sight of God. And, other than for the crime of rebellion, the king couldn't punish any citizen by his own decision. He was obligated by the Torah-procedures like everyone else.

8) A robber repays double to his victim, or works it off. Cutting off the hands of a robber is unacceptable. Debtors are not imprisoned or harmed. They are made to sell property and/or work to repay what they owe. Compare this to the Roman practice by which anyone could accuse a man of owing them money and the debtor could be killed.

9) It is the responsibility of the community to support the widow, the orphan, the poor, and the stranger passing through, instead of requiring these people to fend for themselves.

It is important to note that every one of the above was instituted among the Hebrews (a.k.a. the Israelites) thousands of years earlier than in other nations. Here's just one example: Aristotle, who was among the greatest of the Greeks, and Seneca, the famous Roman, both write that killing one's young babies is perfectly acceptable.

Judaism is actually not that popular. Only 0.25% of the world's religious people identify themselves as Jews, and of that small percentage (which comes out to about 15 million persons) only some 2 million of them actually keep the rules.

The popularity of Judaism among observant Jews themselves, one could say, is that Judaism affords followers the truth about life, whereas other religions are often splinter or branch-offs of something else, and the followers are often seeking whatever next thing claims to be true.

Answer:

Only about 0.25 percent of the world's population practice Judaism. Judaism is one religion that is very common in Israel and much less so in the United States.

I'm not sure that I would characterize Judaism as 'popular'. It's one of the most MISunderstood religions around. Far too many people assume it's just 'Christianity but without jesus' when the reality is, Judaism is profoundly different to Christianity. Jews make up something like 0.25% of the world population; we are a TINY minority. And because converting to Judaism can take around a year, and involves a fair bit of studying, this deters all but the most sincere and passionate of would-be Jews. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Judaism has never been popular. Judaism is (and still remains) a tribal religion in the sense that it is kept by those of a specific bloodline and those few who willingly convert. Judaism does not try to be popular or attract those converts.
