It is not as oxymoronic as it sounds: Labor Day is a US national holiday, recognizing the contributions of the working man, as promulgated by unions and labor organizations in the late 19th century. It is the first Monday in September.

(Labour Day in Canada follows the US date. Other countries have different days. International Workers' Day is held on May Day, May 1st.)
