ALOT OF PEOPLE START USING DRUGS TO MAKE THEM FEEL BETTER ABOUT WHATEVER IS BRINGING THEM DOWN,I KNOW IVE BEEN THERE,IT DOES MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER AT FIRST BUT BEFORE YOU KNOW IT YOUVE CAUSED WAY MORE PROBLEMS FOR YOU TO DEAL WITH. ALSO ALOT OF PEOPLE START AS A SOCIAL THING AND END AS A BAD HABIT VERY HARD TO BREAK

∙ 12y agoWell, there are many different reasons. But here are a few. Reason 1: Their friends start doing it, and tease them about how their not cool. Reason 2: People get bored and maybe have heard about how drugs "help". Reason 3: They resort to it when mad, depressed, or sad. Hope these answers helped!! :)

It all depends on the person. A gateway drug is a drug that people start using and then begin to use other stronger drugs once the "high" of the initial drug isn't enough.

No. Most people start using drugs out of curiosity or an attempt to escape, temporarily, from what ever problems they have. Certain people are genetically pre-disposed to addiction more so than other. For people that have the addiction gene, it is much harder to stop once they have started using.

What factors may make a drug a gateway drug?
There is no such thing as a ( gateway drug ). Some people would tell you that marijuana is a gateway drug that will eventually lead to other types of drug abuse and that is not always true. Some people who start abusing drugs do not start out on things like marijuana. I have talked to people who have NEVER used marijuana and have a bad addiction to methamphetamine, narcotic pain relievers such as lortab, percocet, and other types of (pain pills), heroin, LSD, and many other commonly abused drugs. So you cannot label a specific (drug) as a gateway drug because of the high percentage of people who start out using drugs by doing other illegal substances. With saying that there is a percentage of people who do start out using marijuana and other less (hard) drugs that do move on to bigger things, but at the same time there are ALOT of chronic marijuana users that never use any other drugs.

It's rather like a drug--it's all right when used by people for whom it is prescribed medically, but when people start using it recreationally, that is drug abuse.
