Even Active Duty Military Veterans might not get the Day off, my husband served multiple tours in Iraq but now is a Drill Sergeant and for them this is a regular training day which means off to work he goes. And actually today he'll be gone all day and all night :-)

∙ 16y agoThat's a good question! In 2007 Veteran's Day is actually on a Sunday. Someplaces will celebrate on Monday, such as Banks and I believe the Post Office will take the day off. My company will 'observe' Veterans' Day on November 16th.

We as Americans should honor every single soldiers that has risked and gave their lives to protect ours and our country. Even the one's that are still standing next to us today. Veterans Day shoulnd't just be a day when people take the day off to go shopping. that not what Veteran's Day is about.

Veterans are very important people and I think they should be honored in numerous ways. Veterans should be honored because they once dedicated themselves into doing a noble act. The ultimate sacrifice that was given by few veterans to benefit the many people of the United States of America was provided by many years in ghastly wars and battles. Put the politics aside and just consider the soldier who doesn't make much money, get much time off, or is away from his family months at a time but still, people in the military have a fundamental belief they are protectors of our country. Veterans put their lives at peril because they wanted to fight for their nation's freedom. Instead of sitting down on a snug armchair with a soft robe on sipping tea, they go out and fight for what's right. Veterans sacrificed the time spent with their family because they go out to battle other troops, not being able to be in the same room as their loved ones. Veterans contributed their efforts to make the U.S safe, even though they could have passed away at any second.

Remember that the VA Hospital is there year around, one does not just have to visit on Veterans Day. The Vets in the hospitals might like the paperback books you have read. Some of these Vets do not have any family who care.I agree with the above answers and would like to add one of my own. Talk to them. Better yet, listen to them. You will be amazed at how much you will learn. Many of their stories will make you laugh, some will make you cry. The most important thing, though, is that they will know they are not forgotten, that their service means something. If you love your country, thank a veteran.I also agree, veterans need company in the hospital. No, mailmen do not work on Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are also off on Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Martin Luther King Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Veterans Day.
