Why do people yearn to have lots of money?

Money is power.

Money ensures survival in modern society.

Money can bring physical comforts.

Money is what every one wants. they want it for a lot of reasons like buying Fancy cars big houses Fancy cloths.

There are many reasons why any individual might want lots of money - from buying a new lifestyle to wanting specific goods and luxuries.

But this is not the answer to why we all yearn (and we do) for money - or more generally, for more something.

You need to approach this question from a evolutionary perspective. What makes the yearning for money (or commodities of any sort, really) advantages is that it generally leads to people making more money (people who want it more get more of it, in general). More money = social advantage. Whether this means you are able to survive during a drought, buy slaves to do hard and dangerous work for you, or have very large families and good health care. What this means is that you and your children have a greater propensity for survival.

And thus, over years of evolution, the genetic predisposition for accumulating goods (yearning for money) has become a dominant feature of the human race because of its propensity to help individuals survive.

Sad. But true. We are wired to be greedy.
