Mass is a measurement of the amount of matter in an object. An atom has mass. The Atomic Mass is made up of protons and neutrons because both of these particles make up the atom's nucleus and have mass. Electrons also make up an atom, but their masses are so small that they are not usually calculated in with the atomic mass.

Protons and neutrons influence an atom's mass because an atom is made up of protons and neutrons. The number of protons and neutrons determine the atomic mass (which is the #of protons + neutrons).

The atomic number is an indicator of how many protons are in an atom. Thus the larger the atomic number, the more protons, and the higher the subsequent atomic mass due to the additional number of protons.

Each neutron contributes one atomic mass unit to the mass number, which is a characteristic of a particular isotope of an element rather than of the element itself. The weighted average of the mass numbers of the constituent isotopes is the atomic mass of the element, which is usually not an integer.

Yes, if you add the number of protons and neutrons you will get the atomic mass. Same way if you look at the Periodic Table and if you subtract the number of protons being the atomic number from the atomic mass you will have the number of neutrons.

Because electrons are about 1/2000 times the mass of a neutron, even though they have the opposite charge to a proton. A proton has a very slightly lower mass than the neutron, but it's still about 2000 times that of an electron.

The charge of an atom, on its own, is neutral, so there are as many protons as electrons, and usually a few neutrons kicking about, making it impossible for the majority of the mass to come from the electrons.

Does an atom have a charge if the neutrons equals the protons?

It depends on the amount of electrons in the outer shells. The neutrons do not affect the charge of an atom as they are already neutron. There is only a charge if there is a difference in protons and electrons, not protons and neutrons.

What are the charging of protons electrons and neutrons?

Protons have a positive charge, electrons have a negative charge, and neutrons are neutral and have no charge.

What do protons and electrons have that neutrons do not?

Protons and electrons both have a positive or negative charge, but neutrons have no charge.

What are protons neutrons and electrons hint charge?

Protons have a positive charge, electrons have a negative charge, and neutrons are neutral and have no charge

What is the Definition of neutrons protons and electrons?

Neutrons: no electrical charge Protons: positive charge Electrons: negative charge

What property's do protons and electrons have that neutrons don't?

Protons and electrons are charged particles and neutrons have no charge because they are neutral.

Charges for protons neutrons and electrons for copper?

the protons have a +1 charge, the neutrons zero charge and the electrons -1 charge

Why neutrons are present in an atom?

Protons have a positive charge, Electrons have a negative charge, and Neutrons have a neutral charge. Neutrons help to ground the charges of protons and electrons.

Are electrons bigger than neutrons and protons?

Electrons are 1,836 times lighter than protons. A proton is 99.8% the mass of a neutron

What kind of charge do protons neutrons and electrons?

Protons have positive charge, electrons have negative charge, and neutrons have no charge. The heavier particles, protons and neutrons, make up the atomic nucleus, which always has a positive charge.

What are the thee particles of the atom respective charges are?

They are neutrons, protons and electrons. The neutrons have zero charge, protons have a positive charge and electrons have a negative charge. They are neutrons, protons and electrons. The neutrons have zero charge, protons have a positive charge and electrons have a negative charge.

What is a partical in an atom with no charge?

Atoms consist of protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons have a positive charge. Electrons have a negative charge. And neutrons have no charge at all.
