Because it is arguably the most important city in the world. It is one of the centers of the world for finance, art, music, fashion, and culture. It is many architectural beauties, a long interesting culture (for America), a great diversity of people and cultures, and it is beautiful (in its own way). People like to feel important, and they feel important by living in a big city like NYC. I like NYC, but I wouldn't live there.
