The Sherwani is a traditional garment worn by males in India. It's a piece of clothing that has been worn in India for millennia and is deeply rooted in the country's history and culture. Ankle-length coats called sherwanis are typically crafted from silk or cotton and adorned with elaborate embroidery or other forms of decoration. The lengthy sherwanis are accessorized with churidars, which are similar to breeches. As a sign of dignity and majesty in Indian culture, it is traditionally worn by men at special events like weddings and religious rituals.

In India all people do not bear turban. Sikhs do bear turbans in India as well as outside.

Rajputs also bear turbans, mostly at ceremonial occassion. There are some sporadic cases of bearing turbans in several other ethnic classes in India.

Turbans are worn for cultural reasons as well as possibly religious reasons. Christians in the US, for example, do not generally wear turbans; that is not Western culture. Christians in India or the Middle East, however, might wear turbans.

Turban wearing is not peculiar to Indians - other national and ethnic groups also wear them.

In India, the wearing of a turban usually denotes that the person follows the Sikh tradition, as it is one of the requirements for a devout Sikh.

In a Sikh temple, all must cover their heads in some form, and for those who would not normally wear one, bandanas are often provided at the entrance. When invited to a Sikh wedding, both my wife and I had to buy a hat for the wedding!
