For the same reason some people of all groups hate: because they are taught that such hate is correct. It is the same reason some people are racists, or why some people hate those of a different political party. They refuse to accept differences amongst people.

Answer 1

Well, actually I've never seen any Muslim hate non-Muslims in my life, so I don't know where did you get those ideas from! But by the way, I used to love all the people of all religions and I never though about judging their beliefs BUT since I found out that Christians and Jews and all others hates us then WHOEVER HATES ME FOR BEING MUSLIM I HATE HIM TOO, which is fair enough I think.

And for the record, I know not all Christians and Jews hate us, so whoever respects us, I respect 'em back as well.

Answer 2

Answer 1 belies a lot of the problems and difficulties that face non-Muslims who try to bring up the issue of Islamic superiority where it occurs. However, before answering the question, the underlying supposition that Muslims hate non-Muslims (which is requisite for a "why" question) is suspect and problematic on account of the incredible diversity of Islam. Not all Muslims practice or practiced the regulations that will be discussed nor do all Muslims in areas that have or had such laws make the jump to hatred of non-Muslims. This answer applies strictly to Muslims who do hate non-Muslims.

Unlike the Christians in Europe, Muslims rarely targeted other monotheistic faiths with the "Convert or Die" ultimatum. This ultimatum later made it easy for those opposing Christianity to point out that the Church was incredibly intolerant and this lead to an overhaul of Christianity. Islam added a third option, namely humiliation. Islamic culture, as derived from the Qur'an, the Hadith, and other documentation, has become a legal corpus that supports the idea that non-Muslims should be subject to humiliation and disgrace. (Qur'an 9:29) This is supported by documents like the Pact of Omar which established the jizya and kharaj taxes against Jews and Christians. Jews and Christians had to hide wine and pork in public, avoid building new religious structures and even repairing old ones and were unable to advocate publicly for their religious values (Qur'an 2:109).

As for polytheists like the Zoroastrians, they did not receive the option for humiliation and were exterminated or forcibly converted en masse. (Qur'an 9:29)

These restrictions created a Muslim air of supremacy (in addition to the lines of the Qur'an and Hadith which specifically discuss killing unbelievers, Jews, and Christians and how Muslims are just intrinsically better). They also established a sense of Muslim entitlement. When the Muslims (especially Arabs) discovered themselves under the Colonial Boot (as opposed to the other way around as it was nearly a millennium earlier) it created an immense amount of resentment. Rather than look inward to find out what the causes were that led to this change of power, they decided to demonize the Colonial Powers for taking away their birthright. As the Colonizers were non-Muslim, naturally this meshed perfectly with the given world view that non-Muslims should be humiliated and given their comeuppance. (The Colonization of the Arab World was one of the most shameful experiences in that part of the World. This is also a huge part of the anti-Zionist sentiment among Muslims: the idea that the Jewish State is a form of Western Imperialism.)

The saddest part of this hatred is that Muslims who feel it often do not realize it exists. They simultaneously cry out that ethnic Algerians are mistreated by the French legal system because they have more difficulty gaining jobs while proceeding to torture French citizens after the conclusion of the Algerian Independence War and fail to see the correlation. There are Muslims, like Tawfik Hamid and Tarek Fatah, who have noticed this problem and have spoken out in defense of Freedom and Tolerance, but there are many more voices (and certainly louder ones) screaming for blood based on this historical narrative.

Answer 3

Muslims are required per Islam teachings of Qur'an and prophet Muhammad sayings and practices to respect other faiths and not to oblige people of other faiths to convert to Islam. Refer to question below in this regards.

Regarding the Jizya and Kharaj taxes mentioned in Answer 2,The Jizya was tax was imposed on non-Muslims as they were exempted from participating in the Muslim armies and from defending their lands. That is why it is imposed only on the people who are capable to be in the army. It is imposed on women, old people, children, or ill people. As for the Kharaj tax, this is imposed on non-Muslims on their income as Muslims are paying Zakat (or Almsgiving).

Answer 4

As Answer 2 notes, there are a variety of Muslim opinions and while those who are violent and antagonistic have a tendency to be louder, it does not make their view more pervasive. Some Muslims oppose hatred of other groups quite strongly and have Qur'anic citations to buttress their views as well, perhaps even more-so than those who advocate hatred and violence. As Answer 3 notes, the Qur'an requires people to respect the faiths of others. (Qur'an 2:256, 109:1-6). Additionally, the Qur'an requires a person to give charity to the poor and needy without specifying who is poor or needy (i.e. not only needy Muslims). (Qur'an 2:83, 4:36). The Qur'an also condemns murdering any human being, regardless of religion. (Qur'an 5:36). Finally, the Qur'an provides an injunction intended to arrest fundamentalism that would likely narrow the faith and lead to the very hatred and intolerance that a proper reading of the Qur'an would not promote. (Qur'an 4:171).

Answer 1

Some people associate the actions of some Muslims with all Muslims and Islam, but in reality, no one is responsible for the actions of another.

Answer 2

One of the major problems with even putting forward a question like this today is the presence of the term "Islamophobia" which has really no definition and can be so easily applied. Any criticism of Islam or of Muslim practices just gets branded with this label, even if the words are spoken by Muslims. Therefore, I propose (in this answer) three separate words to discuss the varied feelings of Non-Muslims towards Islam:

  • Anti-Mohammedan(ism) = The belief that Muslims as people are wicked or problematic. This is the Muslim rough equivalent to Anti-Semitism for Jews. The term actually existed historically, but has been "outmoded" because Muslims are no longer called Mohammedans in recognition of the fact that they do not follow Mohammed because he is their Lord and Savior, but only as a Prophet.
  • Anti-Islamic(ism) = The belief that the ideology and beliefs of Islam as a religious construction and lifestyle manifesto promotes wrong-doing or are seriously problematic to a multicultural society.
  • Anti-Islam(ism) = The belief that Islam as politically manifest and capable of determining actual laws promotes inequality, injustice, and moral incorrectness.

Put most simply: Muslim people are lovable, Islamic religion is salvageable, Islamic politics are insufferable.

Anti-Mohammedanism

Most Non-Muslims (contrary to Muslim assertions) are not actually Anti-Mohammedan. While there are certainly a minority of individuals who say that Muslims themselves are a cancer on society, this is a very limited opinion. Muslims of all backgrounds, like Arabs, Indians, Southeast Asians, etc. are typically warm, hospitable, and loving people. They work diligently at their jobs, aspire for their children to have better lives, and are every bit as caring and nurturing as any other citizen. The TV show "Muslims in America" was cancelled after one season because the participants in the show were "too normal". The only difference between them and non-Muslims were that some of the women wore hijabs and everyone prayed on Fridays instead of Sundays. Their ideologies and views were quintessentially American. Muslims in Dearborn, Michigan famously joined the celebrations when Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan, because they opposed the terror and fear that he represented.

If there may be one thing worth noting here, it is that Non-Muslims hope that Muslims can take a critical look at their past in a way that, up to this point, few of them have dared to do. This general failure in the Muslim community is one of the main causes of friction between non-Muslims and Muslims.

Anti-Islamicism

Many more non-Muslims are Anti-Islamic and point to a number of issues with Islamic legal practice and belief. Some of these Islamic "ideas" are incredibly frightening to many non-Muslims. The discussions about declaring Holy Wars on Unbelievers, are very frightening and scary to many who treasure the idea of Freedom of Conscience. Furthermore, Islam as a religion may promote tolerance of other religions, but certainly does not promote equality between religions. Qur'an verse 9:29 which formed the backbone Islamic legal treatment of Non-Muslims historically, says:

Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture - [fight] until they give the jizyah [tax] willingly while they are humbled.

This has led persistently negative treatment of Non-Muslims in Muslim countries. Admittedly, in the Middle Ages, it was superior to European treatment, but today the situation is reversed. Muslims in Europe live without fear that their Mosques could be destroyed or that violence will be used against them. However, Egyptian churches continue to be bombed and Egyptian Christians have no recourse. Lebanese Christians fled Lebanon in the 1920s and 1930s to escape Muslim pogroms. Jews departed from nearly every Muslim-majority country to go to Israeli internment camps because living there was better than their historical ties for centuries to the countries in which they lived. Islam has not learned from this and continues to tell Muslims that they did nothing wrong.

Additionally, Islamic Penal Law makes Non-Muslims very scared. Some particularly problematic issues include: claiming that the rape victim is criminally liable for "getting raped", chopping off a thief's hands as punishment for theft, the execution of homosexuals, blasphemy laws in general, permission given to enslave people, and execution of apostates.

If Islamic views modernizes and its adherents show that they are willing to compete in the marketplace of ideas instead of just yell, scream, and perform violent acts until everybody listens, Islam may get a fairer shake. Until then, many see Islam as undesirable and regressive. If voices like Tawfik Hamid ring louder than those of Ayatollah Khamanei, Islam may garner many more Non-Muslim advocates or at least alienate far fewer. A link to Tawfik Hamid's "Mr. Tolerance" PDF has also been provided to get a flavor of the type of Islam that he advocates.

Anti-Islamism

The overwhelming majority of Non-Muslims oppose (either strongly or weakly) Muslim attempts to impose Islamic Laws on a country's citizens and people. Given that many Non-Muslims find the Islamic Penal Law outdated and horrendous and see that Islam seeks to repress religious minorities, they are not interested in a government that seeks to rule by exactly these mechanisms. This is not opposition to Muslim politicians like Keith Ellison, since he is not an Islamist, but merely a politician informed by values. An Islamist actively seeks the implementation of part or the whole of Shari'a Law, with the intent of creating an Islamic State. Many Non-Muslims in the West hold dearly to the idea that religion should stay out of politics in order to allow every religion the freedom to operate and discuss its views. An Islamist State would also be very restrictive to Muslims, forcing them to live in a Puritanical Way that would prevent differing local customs from informing the cultural richness that can be found in Islamic countries. Islamist regimes (like Iran) are notoriously violent to their own citizens and Non-Muslim compassion for Muslims (Anti-Anti-Mohammedanism) is greatly saddened when such regimes come to power.

Thats a popular misconception, muslim men are well known to enjoy a bit of greek loving as much as the next man. Typical western media influences have tainted the views of many into believing that we dont like them gays
According to a pamphlet produced by Al-Fatiha, there is a consensus among Islamic scholars that all humans are naturally heterosexual. 5 Homosexuality is seen by scholars to be a sinful and perverted deviation from the norm. All Islamic schools of thought and jurisprudence consider gay acts to be unlawful. They differ in terms of penalty:

The Hanafite school (currently seen mainly in South and Eastern Asia) teaches that no physical punishment is warranted.

The Hanabalites, (widely followed in the Arab world) teach that severe punishment is warranted.

The Sha'fi school of thought (also seen in the Arab world) requires a minimum of 4 adult male witnesses before a person can be found guilty of a homosexual act. Al-Fatiha estimates that 4,000 homosexuals have been executed in Iran since their revolution in 1979. 10 public executions of homosexuals have been performed in Afghanistan by the Taliban army.

Answer 2 ():

The Islamic Holy book refers to the biblical story of Lot and his people who entertained such actions. Lot , a prophet of Allah, was instructed to warn his people that what they were doing was wrong and that they would be punnished for it if they persist. Afterward Allah sent angels to lot to inform him that lot and his family will need to vacate the village, the Angels were sent to destroy it. Lot's wife was also a casualty. Muslims believe that the prophets was sent to us with guidance on how to earn Allah's favour. Taking note of the Prophet Lot's message is what makes us not support homosexual relationships.

First, it should be noted that there are numerous Non-Muslims who oppose homosexuality. For example, the strongest opposition to homosexuality in the Americas has consistently come from Evangelical Christians. As for why Muslims oppose homosexuality, it is because Muslims believe that it is a sin against God as described in the Qur'an.
