Why do some people think it is impossible to believe in God?

Maybe you can't understand the many dogmas and traditions that have grown up around God, and find them hard to reconcile or understand.

But develop an ardent desire to find things out for yourself. Call it faith. Then experience God for yourself. It's the logical thing to do. Millions do so every year.

Simply because humans try to put God in a tidy box that fits within our scope of current understanding. Some try to put God in their box and say that there is no God. Others try to put God in their box and instead make themselves out to be "god" over everyone in their lives (i.e. the hypocrites and fanatics). Others try to put Him in their box, can't make Him fit and decide to keep chugging along and leaving Him on the shelf.

Until someone says, "Screw it! I'm done trying to figure out, guess and make assumptions. God, who are you?", do we finally give up and let God do His thing that He's been trying to do all along. He makes more sense when we let Him tell us.

Try convincing an adult to believe in invisible fairies and you'll understand the problem. There's no evidence that these fairies exist. And no real reason to believe in them just based on personal testimony or because a story book says that they're real.

Maybe because when you say "believe in God" you are thinking of an external entity that lives somewhere in the heavens. Perhaps if you think of God as the power that makes you breathe and animates you and the same power runs through all of creation, then it isn't so hard to believe in God. In the end, all of life is simply different levels of awareness, and awareness can also be called consciousness. God is basically universal consciousness and there is no denying that you are conscious and aware and that some immense power is keeping you alive and allowing you to experience and form your own unique identity. If you can admit you are conscious and aware then you are testifying to God's existence in a way.

Many people believe in God, so it is clearly possible to do so. If there are people who believe this is not possible, they are simply ignoring reality.

There is a growing number of people who believe that, for them, it is impossible to believe in God. This is a different matter. They have looked at the evidence for God and found it wanting. They realise that God does not really exist and find believing in a non-existent God as something they can not do.

Try not to think about God, because doing so makes you start to wonder whether he exists at all. Most believers simply believe in God because of their faith that he exists and that he is the all-powerful being that they were always taught him to be. But once you start thinking, you start asking questions and then realise these questions have no answer.

If you wish to believe in God, simply believe. Do not look for proof or explanations.
