Because a volcano occurs when a build-up of magma from the mantle vents. This build-up generally only happens on the edge between 2 tectonic plates, where one is sliding under or crushing the other. These edges are, obviously only in certain parts of the world, so volcanoes also only appear in certain parts.

∙ 15y agoIt depends entirely on where abouts a place is situated in comparison with the earths tectonic plates. If you are near one of the ends of the plates then the chances are that you will have a volcanoe placed somewhere in that area
