Men and women's skills at sandwich-making are, as with any other kind of food-preparation, necessarily equal, especially given the nature of a sandwich. A good sandwich-maker might be female or male, and of any age.

Statistically, women undoubtedly make more Sandwiches than men - consider all those school lunches! - so there will be more females who are good sandwich-makers than there will be men with similar skill levels. One might also say, of course, that women make worse sandwiches than men, because if a more females than males make sandwiches, there must necessarily be more females than males making lousy sandwiches.

Sandwich making is a highly individual, very personal type of food preparation. We all have our favourite sandwiches, with our favourite breads and ingredients; we all even have our favourite ways of constructing a sandwich. One person might, for example, put lettuce onto the bread first, while others put it on top of the other ingredients; some chop the tomatoes while others prefer them sliced, and so on.

A well-made sandwich can be a gourmet delight. A lifeless, boring sandwich is something only to be eaten out of necessity when there's absolutely no alternative: it will stave off hunger, but it won't be enjoyed. At best it will go down barely noticed; at worst you'll wish you'd stayed hungry.

A person might prefer the sandwiches made by, say, their mother or sister to those made by their father or brother, or vice versa. It depends on (a) who makes the family sandwiches most frequently and so develops superior skills; (b) how much the sandwich-maker cares about making the sandwich just the way they know the sandwich-eater likes it, and (c) how good the ingredients are. All the loving care in the world won't produce a delicious sandwich from stale bread and too-old ham, though frying it all will help.

Sandwich-making in mass-production situations, such as cafes and tuck-shops (school canteens), is quite another matter; nobody would expect much personality from any food produced in process-line circumstances, no matter who prepares it.

In a commercial situation, if you are employing someone who can produce a really good sandwich while still working as fast as the producers of insipid, uninteresting sandwiches , don't lose them! Pay them well, or offer sufficient other inducements to encourage them to stay. Whether they're male or female.
