It dosent matter because some people get headaches or an unclear view because they are closing one eye while looking through a small lens. It also can strain your eyes. So you could or you don't have to.

I know that it is recommended to keep both eyes open but for many people who don't have a dominant eye it just confuses the brain and you can't see the image in the microscope. If you can't see the object feel free to close the other eye. This can cause eye strain though. You can swap eyes to reduce this.

It reduces eye strain. The same is true when using a telescope for any extended time. After getting used to this, it can be most useful as you can observe the microscope with one eye and draw pictures with the other.

Keeping both eyes open reduces eye strain. Eventually, your brain will ignore the vision from the eye that is not looking through the ocular lens.

we can not view the specimen under the compound microscope with our two eyes open we have to see it through one eye
