To forget your history is to be doomed to repeat it. We study history to learn about the few things than our ancestors did right in the world, and the MANY things that they did wrong, in the hope that we will learn from their mistakes.

You see, we human beings can ONLY learn from mistakes. But learning from OUR OWN mistakes is painful and dangerous. So we try to learn from the mistakes that other people have made. And past presidents have done a few things right, and gotten a LOT of things wrong. We should learn from THOSE mistakes, so that we can go forward from there and make new and innovative mistakes of our OWN.
