The Debug utility was a utility included with MS-DOS and intended for advanced programmers to use. It was intended for writing short programs using machine code and may have been able to overwrite files too. Every once in a while, an end user would need to use it to do a low-level format on a hard drive.Now it was a very powerful utility. If you just play around with it without messing with files, you would likely hang the computer. If were were messing with files, you could overwrite or corrupt them. With the wrong commands, you might even overwrite the partition table if the computer had a hard drive, and then your data would be useless.
