There are different properties in alloys eg brass is stronger than bronze, steel is stronger than iron, more rust proof, they have different color, eg rose gold, different melting temperatures etc

Alloys are stronger and harder than metals. Metals tend to corrode. Alloys also have different ranges of melting, where metals do not. Alloys are especially better when used in the auto industry, due to less rusting and increased durability.

Metals usually have a set of characteristics that are essentially fixed. By mixing metals together (making them into alloys) we expand their useful characteristics and minimize their problematic characteristics. Stainless steel (an alloy) is stronger, harder, less chemically active than iron (the pure metal). dental amalgams have better thermal expansion characteristics than pure metals, bronze (an alloy) has entirely different characteristics than copper and tin (the components of bronze)
