It is a measure of the concentration of hydronium (H30+11OH) ionic bonds in a solution. The greater the concentration of hydronium ions, the lower the pH and the more acidic it is. Solutions with a pH of less than two are considered strong acids. Solutions with a pH of greater than 12 are considered strong bases.

The pH scale gives substances a label of how acidic, alkaline or neutral it is. For example, if someone says a solution has a pH of 3.2 you would automatically know that the substance was acidic. If the number given was 13, it would be very alkaline. The normal pH range is 0-14 and thus by a nice simple number, a good indication of acidity/basicity is given.

The pH scale is measure of the concentration of Hydrogen ions. It measures how acid or alkaline a solution is. Water has a pH of 7 and is neutral. A pH of less than 7 is acid and more than 7 is alkaline. Each change in the pH value of 1 (e.g from 7 to 8) indicates a ten fold change in hydrogen ion concentration. In math terms : pH= log10 (conc H+)

It is a measure of Acidity. Acidity is basically the concentration of hydrogen ions (H+) in a solution, due to say addition of Nitric acid, which in solution dissociates into Hydrogen and Nitrate ions. If the concentration of hydrogen ions is 1x10{to the power -3} the pH is said to be +3. Twice that concentration, it will be approximately +3.3

The definition is "The logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration, with the sign reversed". For pure water at room(?) temperature, the pH is +7. Anything higher and it is "alkaline", lower is "acidic".
