I too have a 1991 300zx. This car really needs to warm up especially in cold weather. It even says so in the manual. The oil doesn't circulate well until it's warmed up and that causes problems. Wait til the temp meter gets off the bottom peg before driving then drive it soft until it's good and warm. You might need new plugs and wires if you haven't replaced in a while, possible that you might need new injectors, but really everybody who has a 300zx says that the car just doesn't run well when cold and shouldn't be driven hard until good and warm.
Turns out it's the vehicle speed sensor (vss) located near rear of transmission
You can find a repair CD on many of the auctions. I paid $10.00 bucks for mine.

Buy a TT engine. Way easier than trying to put a TT kit on your NA car. I looked into it at one point and it was not at all worth it. You can buy a decent TT motor for 1000-1600 bucks. There are lots of variables on this but its the easiest of all your options to just get a new motor.
The most common problem with these vehicles is a fuel pump starting to go out and starving the engine for gas. It will get worse as time goes on.
spark plug dead or it fell off.....
Had the same problem, try changing the plug wires, it worked for mine
Time for a tune up.
It sounds to me like you have a bad E.G.R. valve... the E.G.R valve is right on the top of the engine. should be pretty easy to get to. if not, it could be you mass air sensor. It would definately be one of the 2... Try the E.G.R valve first though. Probably gonna run you about 100 bucks for it.
With a few bucks, anything you want to put in fits.
you get to buy a new engine for at least 5000 bucks
* Anything you want, just search it instead of google. * Swag bucks is just a search engine like google. On swag bucks, you do your google searches like usual, but you get prizes for it. Swag bucks may or may not be awarded randomly after each search. It's all about chances.
If you continue to drive a vehicle with the check engine light flashing you will do catastrophic damage to the catalytic converter(s). This can lead to big bucks for repairs.

If it's a 3.3L engine then about 35 bucks from Advance auto.
it cost 'bout 2,000000 bucks.
If the MIL blinks at the moment the engine bucks, them its a cold stall, were the engine is about to turn off, if the light is blinking on its own, is impossible, MIL are constantly on, because its a emission related code.
I think you would have to ask around your local barns. Im sure someone would be willing to let you muck out a few stalls and groom some horses for a few bucks a day. Sweeney_Todd_Fan
if it is running like a missfire. i had the same problem it was the idle air valve getting stuck . the part was like fifty bucks and its not that hard to replace If the IAC replacement did not fix it- Then check the intake gaskets- You can this but be careful- With the engine cold run the engine and spray starting fluid lightly around the intake manifold and any vacuum hoses- If there is a leak the engine will idle faster when you spay the leak
