The spring it weak on the pedal. When you let the brake off and the pedal returns it does not stay all the way back. I pull the handle again and bring the pedal back all the way using my foot, light goes out. You could relace the spring or add a second helper spring but this works.

Check your brake light switch. It's about 3-4 inches up the arm of the pedal. Chances are that's the problem.
