Conflicts between imperialist nations over territory added to the pool of disputes gathering in Europe in the century preceeding World War I. The number of conflicts hugely increased the number of possible belligerents in a full-scale war. The most famous example of conflict over land is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand when nationalistic Serbs killed the Austria Archduke because Austria annexed Bosnia, which Serbia also wanted.
