Why does a 2001 jeep Cherokee turn but not start?
Check for fuel Check for spark
Could be a host of things:
Bad fuel pump
Faulty Crank Position Sensor (CPS) or it the wire is disconnected
Bad ignition switch
Faulty coil and/or sparkplug wires (e.g. no spark)
The CPS often go bad. They are about $100 at most autoparts stores. Only 2 bolts hold it on, but its a bear to get to. Located (usually) on the bell housing of the transmission on the driver's side almost at the top. Very little room to get in there.
I don't know about a Grand Cherokee, but in a 2005 Jeep Wrangler you turn your ignition 3 times with out turning the motor over. Turn your key to start, then off, then start, then off, then start and leave in start position, a code will be displayed in the odometer area. Maybe its the same for a Grand Cherokee. If that doesn't work a scan tool is required.
What to do when the security system on a 1991 Jeep Cherokee will not allow jeep to start and key will not turn in lock to reset system?
If the security system on a 1991 Jeep Cherokee will not allow the jeep to start and the key will not turn in the lock, disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Try the key in the lock with the battery disconnected. If it works the first time, reconnect the battery and the system should be reset. If the key does not work in the lock, reconnect the battery and reprogram the key fob.
Why do the gauges and turn signals stop working and also the odometer displays no bus but the car will start and run and drive on your 2001 jeep Cherokee?
Behind the right side headlight surround. Remove the trim around the light and the turn signal. Then remove the turn signal. Follow the wiring harness from the turn signal into the hole behind it. The drain valve is RIGHT there! It may help to remove the headlight also. The Jeep Cherokee radiator drain plug is plastic and very fragile. You should remove the lower radiator hose to drain the cooling system.
The easiest way to reset the 'perform service light' on a 2003 Jeep Cherokee is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes. If this does not fix the problem, try turning the key on, but do not start the vehicle. Pump the throttle 3 times and turn the key off. Then start the vehicle. If the light is still on after that, there might still be something wrong with the vehicle.
