Because it absorbs all visible light. Visible white light can be divided into 7 colours (the rainbow). Every object appears as the colour they are because they reflect that colour from the rainbow spectrum or a mixture of them and then absorb the rest of the light rays. Black things do not reflect any light and so appear black. This is also why black this tend to become warm or hot when it is sunny. They transfer all the light energy they absorb into thermal energy.

BlackBlack is not really a color. It is actually the absence of the wavelengths of the visible light spectrum. So when you see something that is black or you are in the dark and everything around you seems black, it means that there are no wavelengths of visible light hitting your eye and is perceived as the color black.

White on the other hand is the combination of all the visible light spectrum wavelengths.

Black does not absorb light it absorbs light energy or heat from the sun.

The only black that does not reflect any light is a theoretical black. If black did not reflect any visible light, you wouldn't be able to see any surface. You would see a void. You can see this when looking at a black object with a textured surface. What you see are varying shades of black. So, while the amount of light being reflected is significantly smaller than, say, a white object, there is still a portion of the light hitting the object that is being reflected back to your eyes.

objects which are white in colour reflect light that falls on them and when that light strikes our eyes they appear to glow white but black objects absorb light and we see those object only when light from other luminous source fall into our eyes that is why we cannot see black objects in dark even if small amount of light falls.

Black objects are black because when light rays hit them, they absorb every color from the spectrum, which makes them appear black. So even if you put them under a different colored light, they will still appear black. White is actually the exact opposite, since it reflects every color in the spectrum.

Near total absorption of incident light in the visible part of the spectrum causes an object to look black. Simply put, a black object doesn't reflect any incident light.

Everything can turn black if you turn off all lights. An object can look black if you paint it black. Optical illusions can also make things look black. Usually, when there is no light reflecting from an object, the object looks black.

Actually, scientists have recently made the blackest material ever (ie. it reflects the least amount of light). I'm just waiting till they can convert it into clothing...that would be so goth...checkout the URL if you want more info..
