When cats rub against someone leg they are marking their teritory; so when other cats come along they know that you belong to another cat and then they will rub against you to mark their teritory and so it goes on.
Cats also rub your legs to show affection or because they are hungry. My female boss cat only does this when I am standing close to her food bowl or I have lunch meat in hand.

it's a good thing, they are marking you as theirs telling other cats that this is his/her person in effect telling you that they love you. It is similar to when the bunny rubs his chin on you.

My guinea pig purrs two different ways when i rub it on the back it's a rough purr but when i rub it on the head it's a soft curious kind of purr what's the difference between the two purrs?
The rough purr means the guinea pig enjoys it so thoroughly and with all of its heart. The soft purr means it likes the feeling of whatever is happening to it.
