A lot of blood is sent to the head because the human brain is so large and needs so much energy. Also, the skin on the head is a little on the thin side, so a lot of blood can force it's way out of a comparatively thin cut, since there's very little intervening dermis and hypodermis.

When the escaped blood clotts or hardens a make shift seal is formed on the wound proventing you from bleeding until your body can permanantly seal the wound with more skin

∙ 13y agoThe skin on our head is rather thin as compared with the main rest part of our skin. In addition, the blood pressure is slightly higher and this makes blood clotting work slower.
Certain conditions may also hinder the clotting of blood, and this can lead to mayor bleeding from a relative small head wound.
Not to worry though. Apply pressure to a wound and it will stop bleeding. Applying pressure for 5-10 minutes will stop the bleeding in most cases. Head wounds may require a bit longer time, but most headwounds even if bleeding a lot is not dangerous as long as bleeding is under control.
