Best Answer

Wings provide aerodynamics, to both improve handling and make the car faster.

Edit:

Wings provide what is commonly known as downforce. This form of drag forces the cars into the ground when the car is traveling at significant speed, and increases as a function of speed. This downward force allows much more grip in turns due to the car "weighing" more as it is pushed into the car, because friction is equal to the coeficient of friction multiplied by the weight of the object (Or force adhering the surfaces together). So, although they do indeed make the cars go faster around turns, these wings significantly reduce top speed as well as acceleration due to the tremendous drag that they produce.

spoilers are the curved surfaces on the back of sports cars. they are designed in such a way that the flow of air past th spoilers at high speed exerts a high pressure on the car downward which helps the cars to give them the stability during their high speed races

How does a formula one car defy gravity?

Formula 1 cars do not defy gravity; they are actually designed to aid its effect by the use of aerodynamics to push the car harder onto the surface. You may be referring to the fact that it is possible for a Formula 1 to drive on the roof of a tunnel, such is the force created by the wings at high speed.
