CO2 + Ca(OH)2 -> CaCO3 + H2O

Carbon dioxide reacts with calcium hydroxide (lime water) to form calcium carbonate and water. Calcium carbonate is insoluble therefore exist in the form of a white precipitate which turns the solution cloudy.

Carbon Dioxide because,

The carbon dioxide reacts with the dissolved calcium compound to form calcium carbonate that is insoluble. This makes the newly formed substance precipitate out of solution making the lime water cloudy.

So yeah that's the answer:)

Limewater is a saturated solution of calcium hydroxide. When CO2 gas is bubbled into limewater it forms calcium carbonate, which is insoluble, and turns the limewater cloudy.

Oxygen or hydrogen are not very soluble in water, and they don't hydrolyze or form OH- ions that will shift the equilibrium. Therefore, O2 or H2 won't cause limewater to turn cloudy.

When carbon dioxide is mixed with lime water, the lime and the carbon dioxide react to form calcium carbonate, meaning a solid in the particles is formed and this turns the lime water cloudy.

Carbon dioxide

How could we confirm that the gas generated was in fact Carbon dioxide?

Test it with lime water. If the lime water goes milky you have carbon dioxide.

What is the effect carbon dioxide in lime water?

Lime water turns milky when carbon dioxide is added to it.Lime water also turns into Calcium carbonate (Limestone) solution

Function of lime water?

It is to test for the presence of carbon dioxide. If carbon dioxide is present,it will turn chalky however if carbon dioxide is absent, lime water will remain colourless.

What is lime water an indicator for?

Limewater is an indicator for Carbon Dioxide

Why does lime water absorb carbon dioxide?

ime water can be used to detect the presence of carbon dioxide because lime water reacts with carbon dioxide to produce a precipitate of calcium carbonate:Ca(OH)2 (aq) + CO2 (g) → CaCO3 (s) + H2O (l) no, lime water doesn't produce carbon dioxide, it just detects it.

What happens when carbon di oxide passes through lime water?

Carbon dioxide turns lime water milky.

What is a test to show that a gas is carbon dioxide?

Put the gas (CO2) in lime water. If the lime water changes colour, then it means that there is carbon dioxide in the gas depending on how fast the lime water changes colour

Why does lime water go cloudy?

Lime water goes cloudy when a reaction takes place with carbon dioxide. Lime water detects the presence of lime water.

Which chemicals detect carbon dioxide?

Lime water

How do you know that the air breathed out contains carbon dioxide gas?

You can test it with the Lime Water test. If there is carbon dioxide in your breath then the Lime Water should turn cloudy.
