Why do you need renewable energy resources?

Renewable energy is very helpful in terms of long-term planning. It doesn't run out, unlike non-renewable sources such as petroleum (there is only so much oil in those oil wells). It also creates much less pollution. So, since our world faces serious environmental problems which may become much more serious, renewable energy has become very important.

Renewable energy means it will never run out, unlike the fossil fuels which eventually will, and it is predicted that the will do just that before less than 100 years have passed, maybe even in our lifetimes. Some good examples of renewable energy are wind, tidal power, solar, geothermal, hydro power and waves. These can all help the environment in the long run and all the species of animal in the world, because if the world continues heating up (burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere) some of them will find it harder to adapt to the much warmer climate.

At the moment, the UK uses less than 5% renewable energy, whereas some countries that are much bigger than us, for example, Iceland use 100%. One reason for this is that it is very expensive, but its slowly getting cheaper, and hopefully sometime in the future everyone can use it and our world will become a better place with less risk of major global warming and fossil fuels running out.
