Seizures are triggered by many different factors. I'll make you a short list of some:

  • Bright lights
  • Blinking lights
  • The temperature being to high
  • The temperature being to low
  • A skipped meal
  • Dehydration
  • Ingestion of to much nicotine
  • Ingestion of to much alcohol
  • Sitting to long in front of a screen without a break (that goes for TV, PC, PSP, NDS, etc)
  • Lack of sleep
  • High decibel (loud music, noise, etc)

...all of this could cause a seizure, what causes a seizure varies with the different types of epilepsy and the persons having epilepsy, so does the level of the different triggers needed to trigger one (like the amount of alcohol needed to cause a seizure)

Hope this answers your question :-)

There is electrical activity going on in everyone's brain at all times. A seizure happens when there is some change in the level of that activity. What specifically causes that to happen is different for different people. Epilepsy is a single name that in reality covers many different things, as many different things can affect electrical activity in the brain.

Everyone has the potential to have a seizure. People who are diagnosed as having epilepsy have recurring seizures. The frequency, severity, types and causes of those seizures can vary widely. Something that causes a seizure in one person may have no effect on another person who also has epilepsy.

You commonly hear of seizures being caused by flashing lights or strobe lights. That only causes seizures in a very small percentage of the people that have epilepsy. For the vast majority of people with epilepsy, flashing lights and strobe lights will not trigger a seizure. Those people have other triggers for their seizures. So the answer is that abnormal electrical activity in the brain is what causes seizures, but there are many things that can cause abnormal electrical activity in the brain and it is different for each person.

Can a fall injury cause seizures?

Seizures are caused by unusual electrical activity in the brain. A back injury would not directly cause that to happen. It is possible that someone with a back injury could also happen to have seizures. If seizures started around the same time as the back injury, then it would be important to know how the back injury was caused and if something else could have happened at the time which led to the start of seizures. Only a doctor that could examine the person could establish if there is any connection.
