ALL reactions (apart from Nuclear) take place on the surface. By crushing the solid you are increasing the surface area and also the SA/Volume ratio. This increased surface area increases the area available for the dissolution reaction.

Is stirring or shaking the mixture not going to increase the speed at which a solid solute dissolves in water?

No, it won't help. I have tried it myself. Just wait. Patience is a gift you should use.

How would you speed up a chemical reaction?

increase temperature use a catalyst increase concentration increase surface area of what you are reacting (crushing into a powder)

How do solutes behave in a solvent?

strring , grinding, and temperature affect the speed which a solid dissolves in water.

Why do increase temperature affect how quickly a solid solute dissolves?

Heat increase the speed at which a solid dissolves as it causes the molecules to disintegrate and spread away from each other. Heat will convert a solid into a liquid and eventually into gas.

Why does heating increase the speed at a solute dissolves in water?

It makes the water molecules move faster.

Why those heating increase the speed at with solute dissolves in water?

Links between chemical entities (atoms or molecules) are quickly destroyed if the temperature increase.

What does heating increase the speed at which a solute dissolves in water?

It will affect it because the chemicals in what you are trying to dissolve, will increase if you put it in hot water. The chemicals dissolve much faster the higher the temperature.

Why does reducing solute particle size increase the speed at which a solute dissolves in water?

Reducing particle size results in an increase in surface area. The increase in surface area allows more solvent (water) molecules to interact with the substance, and this increases the rate at which that substance dissolves.

Why does reducing particle size increase the speed at which the solute dissolves in water?

It exposes more of the solute surface to the water molecules.

What does reducing solute particle size increase the speed at which the solute dissolves in water?

It exposes more of the solute to the water molecules

What factors influence the speed rate which the sugar dissolves?

The most important and basic factor that increase the dissolving rate is temperature.

What happens to the movement of the particles as you change a solid into a liquid?

They increase in speed and randomness.
